Who we are

we are peacehaven house

Peacehaven House is set in a quiet suburb of Southport, it is a lovely traditional building set in delightful and extensive gardens that has been sympathetically extended and refurbished over the years. It is conveniently located to local shops in Churchtown and has excellent access to the sea side town of Southport. Residents are positively encouraged to maintain an independent lifestyle and have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of interests and activities.

Peacehaven House was established in 1949 as a Registered Charity to provide care for the elderly in Southport. Over the years it has been extended and refurbished and now contains 55 bed rooms, multiple lounges, two dining rooms, a conservatory, extensive gardens with paved walkways, a summer house and a stunning waterfall.

This is no ordinary care home, this is Peacehaven House, where residents come first , where the care home really is their home and the staff are friendly, committed and enthusiastic .We guarantee you a warm and friendly welcome and new residents rarely take a long time to settle and to feel part of a community that has thrived for many years. Resident’s needs are carefully assessed and care is tailored to the individual. Respect and security feature high on our list of priorities, as does the need for fun and adventure – when appropriate!

Our activities team provide a wide range of activities and social events are regularly organised such as quizzes, card & board games, shopping expeditions or general visits in the local area. We also have talks by visiting speakers, entertainers, exercise classes and bingo sessions plus our own on site hairdressers. Our Easter and Summer Fairs are always popular and our extensive gardens lend themselves ideally to these events as well as BBQ’s, garden lunches or teas and lazy summer days with a nice cup of tea or something colder.

Being a not for profit, charity led organisation has many advantages for residents at Peacehaven House. We are able to re-invest any surplus generated into improved facilities or offerings for our residents, we are not beholden to shareholders and run the Home for the sole purpose of the residents. The resident truly comes first at Peacehaven.

We take great pride in providing a safe, comfortable and happy environment for our residents, no appointments are necessary, however visitors must sign into reception and be accompanied by a member of staff as they tour the facilities for security reason.

Please call in and have a look - you won’t be disappointed

Our History

The registered charity was formed on the 5th December 1949 when 115 Roe Lane was purchased. We initially provided accommodation for eighteen residents and it was fully occupied from the day it opened. In October 1956, 101 Roe Lane (our current location) was purchased and conversion to a Care Home was completed on 19th June 1958. A two storey rear extension known as the Garden Wing was added in 1960 and in 1971 the single storey extension housing additional bedrooms, a second kitchen, lounge, and dining room was added.

In the late 1990’s research commenced into the future requirements of Peacehaven residents and special attention was given to the forthcoming Care Standards Act and Care Home Regulations that would ultimately lead to the closure of many care homes in the UK. Between July 2004 and January 2005 a major modernisation project was undertaken followed by a smaller second phase of work between October 2005 and March 2006 leading to our present total of 55 bedrooms, many of which have en suite facilities. The Derwent Wing was extensively refurbished in 2012 to provide a modern open plan lounge and dining design with delightful views of the extensive gardens.

Our Team

We currently employ 63 staff, some have been with us over 20 years, several of whom have been at Peacehaven over 15 years, and over half of our staff has been with us more than 10 years. Our aim is to provide a safe, comfortable and friendly environment for our residents and we recognise whole heartedly that Peacehaven is not just a care home, but in reality is each individual resident’s actual home.

Peacehaven House has a dedicated team that has delivered devoted service over many years giving us a very stable environment and platform to provide care to our residents. Respect and understanding are cornerstones of our approach to care and our staff are well trained, enthusiastic and team based players who without doubt follow our motto of “The residents come first”.

Peacehaven House is run soley for the benefit of the residents

Our Facilities

Peacehaven House is set in large landscaped gardens with a car park located directly in front of the entrance to the main building and reception. Wheelchair access is provided to the main door and full disabled access exists throughout the building, there are stairs and a lift to the first floor and a lovely conservatory overlooking the gardens again with convenient access for all.

We have two lounges and a dining room conveniently located close to the reception area and the bedrooms affiliated to the main building, one includes a large screened TV whilst the other one is used primarily for relaxation, chatting and reading. There is a lovely conservatory mid way between the main building and the Derwent Wing (open to all) that contains a further dining room and lounge, with a large screen TV, that enjoys lovely views of the gardens. The gardens are extensive with large lawned areas, flower beds, pathways, patio areas, waterfall and a model railway. You really have to see the scale of the gardens to believe them and to appreciate the multiple uses that they are used for, such as garden parties, places to eat and drink and of course just to walk around and enjoy.
